Earlier this year we created a new website for New Life School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. As part of the project I spent a couple days at their school taking photographs of the school, students and teachers.
New Life School provides an excellent education to over 300 students, many of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds that would not be able to attend school without the scholarships provided by New life School.
They have an amazing collection of dedicated teachers that inspire the students to dream and work toward their goals of being prepared for higher education.
They have outgrown their current building and are raising funds to build a new campus so they can accommodate more students.
Their current building was a challenge to work in because of the limited light and small classrooms.

For every project its always good to have a collection of portraits to really bring a human element to the website and communication materials. The challenges, it seems, are always good light and a good background. For this project I made use of doorways that opened to the outside light, windows, and for a set of staff portraits a blank concrete wall and a small LED light for fill light.

Below are a few portraits made with the blank concrete wall. We took portraits of all the staff for the website and they really turned out great. I really enjoy getting good portraits of people while i’m working on a project. I feel like it really helps the audience and donors connect with the people involved.
